Lake Levels
Lake Chapala has had a checkered past, and it's saga is ongoing. Only a few short years ago the lake was at it's lowest levels equaling to less than 20% of it's capacity. Now that there has been some global interest and influential organizations shedding light on the situation, the federal government has been taking on some responsibility and enforcing more stringent water use practices from dam control to water ordinances. That, along with some co-operating rainy seasons, the Lake had jumped back up to nearing 80%. There are some excellent resources provided by the government to allow us to keep close watch on the current conditions of the lake. Provided below are some real-time charts so you can see what the lake is doing at any given time.
This chart provided by the Government of Jalisco shows a chart of the last three years to date of the lake levels. The readings are taken almost every day and updated constantly. This is especially helpful for comparison of the last two years' levels. *note* if the page doesn't load properly, hit F5.
This, also provided by the Government of Jalisco, shows a chart of the last three years to date of the lake levels as a bar graph. This notes the volume (Mm3) of the lake, along with it's height. *note* if the page doesn't load properly, hit F5.
